Pakistan Policy Statement GA

Honored chairs and fellow delegates, the delegation from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan wishes to express its deepest sorrow and disgust at the tragedies of unfair treatment of immigrants in Europe, human trafficking, and the rising rate of kidnapping for ransom. Pakistan's first concern is how European governments are unfairly discriminating against immigrants from the Middle East. In particular, Pakistan is outraged at the recent, censeless deportation of thousands of Pakistani immigrants. As signatories to the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the offending nations should know better than to blatantly target immigrants for their race or religion. Of course, unfairness in the world is not concentrated entirely in Europe: Pakistan is also dismayed by the international phenomenon of human trafficking. Though Pakistan recognizes that this is a real threat, its experience with implementing a zero-tolerance policy has shown nations autonomously reacting to the specific situations in their countries, with the financial support of the UN, to be the best strategy for long-term success. Pakistan believes a similar strategy of local enforcement with the backing of the UN is also the best way to attack the problem of kidnapping for ransom. The delegation from Pakistan feels nations should be free to combat their domestic problems without interference, so long as they follow all international agreements protecting the rights of immigrants.
