Slovakia has an obvious view on kidnappings on international scale. We do not support such things and recommend the strongest possible measures to be taken against that kind of “business”. We have one of the lowest rates of kidnappings in Europe and in the World. The Slovak state had one of the lowest rates of kidnappings in countries. Considering that, we propose to establish a UN organisation in order to fight organised kidnappings on international scale with the support of all nations in the UN. As a technologically developed nation supporting third world countries with specialists, we have to protect them.
On the topic of immigration, the delegation of Slovakia believes that the immigrants should be treated with respect. Immigration workers from other country can help with economics of another. However they should not be given easily given citizenship. As a member of the Schengen Agreement area, we believe that immigration rate should be controlled so that both the country and the immigrants can benefit from it. If the immigrant population is unmanageable, the culture and the dynamic of the society will change drastically and this will severely affect our long-existing history and civilization.
As for the third topic, Slovakia has been facing the issue of the entrance of foreign workers for a short period of time when compared with other economically more advanced European countries. . The delegation of Slovakia must admit that nowadays an internal debate concerning the conditions of work for foreigners is going on, and inequalities, between women and men on one side, citizens and immigrants on the other side, do exist; however, the delegation of Slovakia assures that our aim is harmonizing our legislation with that of the European Union; moreover, we are close to the achievement of the prohibition of the discrimination and the establishment of equal rights and opportunities for all the legal migrant workers. The delegation of Slovakia is also focused on the improvement of the working environment in order to eliminate risks for the human health. As for the human trafficking, the delegation of Slovakia states that the problem is not registered in our country, but we are deeply concerned about areas such as the Middle East, and we support the intervention of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
