The United States of America

We the people of the United States Government would like to say that it is a pleasure to be surrounded by such presence. We hope that this year’s General Assembly will have an incredible session. The United States is fully committed to the discussions of the General Assembly and hopes that we can resolve our issues in an established and mature manner. The topics which we have been presented with are all important however the United States of America feels as though immigration is the most significant topic, followed by international kidnapping, and human trafficking.

The issue of immigrant’s rights is an issue that is crucial to the United States of America for it is an issue that the United States experiences firsthand. The people of the United States would like to point out that under international laws states have implicit sovereign rights over the admission and expulsion of immigrants. However, the United States would also like to present the fact that states must stay in accordance with international human rights laws. Nations carry the responsibility to admit citizens back into their country once returned. We believe that this policy needs to be reinforced so that there is no further disruption of the country. We, as the United States, have a long history of accepting and welcoming immigrants into our country and encourage other nations to take up new immigration laws. Because the United States has had a long record of immigrants we have established laws and government groups to take control of the problem. Currently U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is our countries main line of defense from illegal immigrants, they enforce our nation’s immigrations laws in a fair and efficient manner. They identify, apprehend and remove any people that currently reside in our country illegally. This government group has been most effective in detaining those who pose a threat against our society. Homeland Security is another precaution of which the United States government has taken. This organization protects our borders from immigrants who illegally come into this country. Studies have shown that the program which we currently use has been productive in its attempts to keep out borders safe. Although the issue of illegal immigrants is wide spread the United States would like to acknowledge that there are many individuals around the world who are stuck in a state of limbo, while trying to achieve their citizenship. In 2009 alone 1,130,818 people became Legal Permanent Residents of the United States, as a country who has many applicants each year we have created an efficient system for the introduction of new citizens. We hope that this year’s General Assembly will be able to create a Resolution that will not only help control the movement of immigrants into nations, but will also protect and maintain the rights of these people while they do so.

The United States of America have taken much interest in regards to the subject of International Kidnapping. The United States believes that Kidnapping of foreigners has increased dramatically in the past few years across the world and we would like to call upon the fellow members of the general assembly to help protect the people of the world. We do not stand injustices such as this, as many of our citizens as well as many other people around the world have been kidnapped and held hostage against their will. The United States Government believes that using innocent citizens as a means to solve foreign affairs is a despicable crime. We take the abductions of our citizens very seriously and often we send in ambassadors to negotiate. Only under special circumstances will our military send in task forces. Under United States protocol it is the duty and United States Government's policy to deny the hostage-takers, benefits of ransom. This policy remains strict in its position to pursue any investigations of kidnapping. We believe that it is the sole duty of each country to prevent the abductions of foreigners for it is essential to many global aspects.

The people of the United States of America wish to state how firmly committed we are to the prevention of human trafficking. The United States believes that all countries need to work together on this highly visible issue. The government of the United States retains the opinion that the Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. Human trafficking will not be stopped without the enforcement of laws. The United States does not believe that a Global Plan of Action will be a significant enough of a measure in this process. To prevent transnational trafficking, all nations around the world must first gain control over trafficking in their own territories. The United States would like to urge countries to provide aid to the victims of trafficking. In turn, this will also help the rights of foreign workers.
